DotA 2 Codex Privacy Policy
Effective date: 5 October 2026
Last updated: 5 October 2026
DotA 2 Codex (the App) is an independent, fan-made Dota 2 reference and companion application. This Privacy Policy explains how ZEROSPEC (ZEROSPEC, we, us or our) handles personal information in connection with the App and its feedback service.
This policy does not apply to third-party websites, services or content that you choose to access from the App; those services have their own privacy practices.
Where the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) applies to our handling of personal information, we aim to handle that information consistently with applicable requirements, including the Australian Privacy Principles.
You can use the App without an account. The App does not collect or send us your ordinary in-app preferences or reference activity. If you choose to send feedback, we receive the information you choose to provide, and limited technical information needed to deliver and protect that submission.
1. Information the App stores on your device
The App stores the following information locally on your device so it can operate as intended:
- favourite heroes and items;
- an optional MMR/rank estimate;
- theme and onboarding preferences;
- the currently selected featured hero; and
- a short local cooldown value that helps prevent repeated feedback submissions.
This information remains on your device and is not transmitted to ZEROSPEC by the App. You can delete it using the App's clear-data controls, by clearing the App's storage in Android settings, or by uninstalling the App.
2. Feedback you choose to send
The feedback feature is optional. If you select Send feedback, we collect and receive the information you choose to submit, which may include:
- the feedback topic and message;
- an optional screenshot you attach; and
- your email address, but only if you choose the option asking us to contact you about your feedback.
We collect this information directly from you when you submit it. We use it only to review reports, correct or improve the App, respond where you have requested a response, protect the feedback service from misuse, and meet legal obligations or resolve disputes where necessary.
Please do not include passwords, payment-card details, government identifiers, health information, or other sensitive personal information in feedback or screenshots. If you provide information about another person, you are responsible for ensuring that you are permitted to provide it.
3. Data minimisation and use limits
We seek to collect only the personal information reasonably necessary for the feedback feature and related security purposes. We do not use feedback information for targeted advertising, to sell or rent personal information, or to build a marketing profile about you. We do not use information submitted through feedback for a materially different purpose unless permitted by law or we notify you and obtain consent where required.
4. Technical information associated with feedback
When feedback is submitted, our feedback endpoint and service providers may process limited technical information, such as your IP address, request time, device or browser headers, and security or rate-limiting information. This information is used to deliver the submission, maintain the security and reliability of the service, and detect or prevent abuse. We do not use it for targeted advertising, cross-app tracking or behavioural profiling.
5. Information we do not collect for our own purposes
We do not intentionally collect or use precise or approximate location; contacts, call data, camera recordings or microphone recordings; health, financial, authentication or government-identification information; advertising identifiers; account credentials or user accounts; analytics, behavioural profiles or cross-app tracking data; or locally stored favourites, MMR/rank estimate, theme settings or onboarding preferences.
The current Android build requests only the INTERNET permission. It does not request runtime access to location, camera, microphone, contacts, storage, notifications or advertising ID.
6. Sharing and service providers
We do not sell, rent or trade personal information, and we do not share feedback information for third parties' direct marketing purposes.
We disclose feedback information only where reasonably necessary to operate the feedback process. This may include our hosting or infrastructure provider and Resend, which is used to deliver feedback emails. Those providers may process information on our behalf, subject to their own terms, privacy practices and applicable law.
We may also use or disclose information where reasonably necessary to comply with law, respond to lawful requests, protect the security or integrity of the App or feedback service, investigate suspected misuse, or establish, exercise or defend legal claims.
7. Third-party links and external content
The App may open or connect to third-party services when you choose to use a feature or follow an external link. These can include Ko-fi, Valve/Dota2.com, Dota2ProTracker, Dota2.Tools, DotaSense, Dotafire and other linked content providers. Remote media referenced by the App may also be requested from its host.
Those services are independent of ZEROSPEC and may collect information under their own privacy policies. We do not control their privacy practices. Review their privacy policies before providing information or using their services.
The App is not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by Valve Corporation.
8. Retention and deletion
Local App data remains on your device until you delete it, clear the App's storage or uninstall the App.
We retain feedback, optional contact details, screenshots and associated technical records only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy, including reviewing and responding to feedback, maintaining security records, resolving disputes and meeting legal obligations. We then delete or de-identify it where reasonably practicable. Service providers may retain information according to their own retention practices and contractual or legal obligations.
9. Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures designed to protect feedback information from unauthorised access, loss, misuse, interference, modification or disclosure. Measures may include limiting access to people and service providers who need it for the purposes described in this policy, and using secure transmission and service-provider controls where appropriate. No method of internet transmission or electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
If we become aware of a suspected data breach, we will take reasonable steps to contain and assess it, reduce the risk of harm, and notify affected individuals and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner where required by applicable law.
10. International processing
Our service providers may process feedback information in countries outside Australia. Where personal information is disclosed overseas, we take reasonable steps appropriate to the circumstances to ensure it is handled consistently with applicable privacy requirements. The countries involved may vary depending on the service provider and its infrastructure; contact us if you would like further information about the providers used for the feedback service.
11. Children
The App is not directed specifically at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe that a child has submitted personal information through the feedback feature, contact us and we will review the request and delete the information where appropriate.
12. Your choices, access and correction
You may use the App without identifying yourself, decline to submit feedback, submit feedback without requesting a reply, and choose not to include an email address or screenshot.
Subject to applicable law and reasonable identity verification, you may ask us to access or correct personal information we hold about you through feedback, or request its deletion. To make a request, email info@zerospec.au and include enough information for us to locate the relevant submission. We aim to respond within 30 days. We may need to request further information to verify your identity and may decline a request where permitted or required by law; if we do, we will explain why unless we are legally prevented from doing so.
13. Complaints
If you believe we have mishandled your personal information, please email info@zerospec.au with the subject line Privacy complaint and describe your concern. We will acknowledge your complaint and aim to respond within 30 days. If we need more time, we will tell you why and provide an expected response date.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the App, feedback service or legal requirements change. We will publish the updated policy at the same URL and change the “Last updated” date. If a change is material, we will take reasonable steps to draw it to users' attention where appropriate. The updated policy applies from its effective date.
